Eland Cables supplies a comprehensive range of concentric and split concentric cables manufactured in accordance with standard BS7870. These aluminium and copper cables are UK Power Network (UKPN) approved and are devised for use by Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to provide the final connection to residential properties. Additional functionality includes use for sub-main distribution and within high-rise buildings and street lighting systems.
The choice between Concentric and Split Concentric cable is determined by the supply type: TN-C-S supply for Concentric and TN-S supply for Split Concentric. These are LSZH cables (low smoke zero halogen) with the outersheath suitable for installations requiring a reduction to the risk to human life or sensitive equipment in the event of fire.
These cables are used for power supplies with Protective Multiple Earthing (PME) systems, where a combined Protective Earth (PE) and Neutral (N) - together known as the PEN - connects the combined neutral-and-earth to real earth at multiple locations to reduce the risk of electric shock in the event of a broken PEN. They are manufactured in accordance with BS7870-3.10 (PVC insulation and sheathing), BS7870-3.11 (XLPE insulation / PVC sheathing) and BS7870-3.12 (XLPE insulation / LSZH sheathing)
These cables are used when the power supply has separate PE & N conductors and are only combined as PEN near the power source. The Protective Earth and Neutral are not connected after the building entry point. They are manufactured in accordance with BS7870-3.20 (PVC insulation and sheathing), BS7870-3.21 (XLPE insulation / PVC sheathing) and BS7870-3.22 (XLPE insulation / LSZH sheathing).
The technical datasheets provided cover the dimensional data and electrical characteristics required to support sizing and specification. The electrical characteristics are in line with BS7671 Wiring Regulations and EN 60228 for conductor resistance.
